Junagadh’s Chorwad witnessed a major political shift in the local body elections.
In Ward No 8 of Chorwad Municipality, Congress MLA Vimal Chudasama faced defeat. The seat saw an intense battle between Congress MLA Chudasama and BJP MP Rajesh Chudasama.
Winning the municipal election was prestigious for both leaders. It was a head-to-head contest between Congress’ Chudasama and BJP’s Chudasama.
The results announced on Tuesday morning have caused a major political upset. BJP leader and MP Rajesh Chudasama defeated Congress leader Vimal Chudasma, shattering Congress’s dream of a hat-trick victory.
The BJP, which had been out of power for a long time, has finally ended its political exile. Both parties made all-out efforts to secure victory, but the people of Chorwad decided to move away from Congress and favour the BJP’s lotus symbol, resulting in a major political shift.
Chorwad recorded the highest voter turnout of 76%, the highest in the entire district.

Low voter turnout a concern
Along with Junagadh Municipal Corporation, the results for elections in 66 municipalities and more than 70 district and taluka panchayat seats will be announced today.
After the state assembly and Lok Sabha elections, the mandate of the people of Gujarat will be determined once again. However, voter turnout in Sunday’s elections was low, causing concern among political leaders and party workers. The possibility of unexpected results cannot be ruled out. It remains uncertain which party will benefit from the low voter turnout.
