With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) set to release names of party presidents for districts, the new eligibility criteria are setting high bars.

The party has updated the age limit of 40 to 45 years for district presidents instead of the previous 60 years.

The state BJP high command is likely to announce the names of most of the district presidents on January 8.

As per reports, a local-level meeting was scheduled for Sunday where the forms will be submitted to the election officer.

Later on January 6, BJP will hold meetings at Kamalam in all districts to submit the forms of candidates for the position of president.

The forms will be sent to the regional BJP chief on January 7.

With the age limit changes, more candidates are expected to apply for the position this year.

However, the selected BJP presidents will have to pull up their socks as the elections of gram panchayat, taluka panchayat, district panchayat and nagar palika are likely to be announced anytime soon.

Eligibility to become district BJP president

Must have been an active member for two terms, the information for which must be attached to the form.

Must have worked at the district/regional level in district/regional teams, Morchas, and projects (prakalps).

A person suspended by the party will not be able to claim the post of president.

Women can also be included as district metropolitan presidents. The rule of one responsibility for one worker in a family will apply.

Those who have been district metropolitan presidents for two consecutive terms will not get another chance.
