An internal dispute has surfaced within the BJP in Ahmedabad after Shahpur corporator Jitendra Chauhan resorted to a lockout over civic work-related issues. Following the incident, city BJP president Prerak Shah called all four corporators from the Shahpur ward to the party office to discuss the matter in connection with party discipline.
The meeting was attended by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) ruling party leader Jashubhai Thakor and general secretary Umang Nayak. The corporators’ concerns were heard, and details were also sought from the concerned officials.
According to the party’s ruling group leader, 28 of the 32 works proposed by Chauhan have been completed, while four remain pending. The matter will be discussed further at an internal party coordination meeting.
‘He Knows BJP’s Discipline Despite Coming From Another Party’
AMC ruling party leader Jashubhai Thakor said Chauhan’s concerns had been heard and information had been obtained from the concerned official.
He reiterated that 28 of the 32 works suggested by Chauhan had been completed, with four still pending. A party coordination meeting will be held to discuss the remaining issues.
Chauhan was previously associated with the Congress and later joined the BJP before being elected as a corporator. Thakor said that although Chauhan had joined the BJP from another party, he was aware of the party’s discipline.
Deputy Commissioner Says Two of Four Budgeted Works Completed
Ramya Bhatt, Deputy Commissioner of AMC’s Central Zone, said that two of the four works covered under the budget allocated to Chauhan had been completed.
She added that regular meetings are also held with corporators in the presence of the local MLA. Bhatt denied that officials were ignoring corporators’ representations or failing to carry out their work.
Similar Lockout Incidents Reported Earlier
This is not the first instance of a BJP corporator or a family member resorting to a lockout over civic issues. Similar incidents had earlier involved the husband of a woman corporator from Paldi and a corporator from Asarwa.
The latest incident in Shahpur has once again brought attention to internal party discipline and coordination between elected representatives and civic officials over local development works.
