A series of events occurred as such that the switch-over spree to the BJP hit Congress up to the highest ranks when the former president of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) and former leader of the opposition, Arjun Modhwadia, joined hands with the saffron party on Mar 5.

Along with him, the party saw defections from former Khambhat MLA Chirag Patel on Feb 4, former Vijapur MLA CJ Chavda, who resigned on Jan 19 and joined the BJP on Feb 12, and former Manavadar MLA Arvind Ladani, who resigned on Mar 6 and joined the BJP on Mar 14.

Independent MLA Dharmendrasinh Vaghela was also inducted into the party on Feb 21.

All of them have been fielded by the BJP in their respective constituencies.

Along with Gujarat, the party also gave tickets to all six Congress rebels in Himachal Pradesh, who had supported the party in the Rajya Sabha polls, for the June 1 by-poll simultaneous with four Lok Sabha seats.

The candidates are Sudhir Sharma from Dharamsala, Rajinder Rana from Sujanpur, Ravi Thakur from Lahaul-Spiti, Inder Dutt Lakhanpal from Barsar, Chaitanya Sharma from Gagret and Devender Bhutto from Kutlehar.
