Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft and one of the richest people in the world, visited the Statue of Unity and interacted with local women and had food prepared by them on Mar 1.

Gate’s visit saw him relishing some Gujarati cuisine’s delicacies, prepared by the women of Sakhi Mandal at Arogya Van. He tasted Gujarati dishes like khichu, gota, thepla, and ladoos, some of them made from millet.

According to the details, Gates, who reached Vadodara at around 11 a.m. on Mar 1, was welcomed at the Vadodara Airport by the Vadodara collector and police commissioner. After that, he reached the Statue of Unity via a personal helicopter.

Gates was accompanied by Jagdish Vishwakarma, the minister of Gujarat for micro, small and medium Industries, cottage, khadi and rural Industries.

At the Statue of Unity, he was informed about Sardar Patel’s role in the integration of princely states into India after the country’s independence. He also saw the view of Sardar Sarovar Dam from the viewing gallery.

He was also made aware of the history and construction of Sardar Sarovar, and how the water and electricity produced from the dam is supplied to Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh due to this dam.

Bill Gates’ visit to Arogya Van consisted of him meeting the members of Mahila Sakhi Mandals, interacting with them, and visiting their stalls.

Here, he learned about various bamboo products made by these women, Ayurvedic medicines, and forest products.

Later, Gates also interacted with women driving rickshaws under Pink Auto Service.
