Bhavnagar NSUI president arrested in ‘digital arrest’ scam, ABVP holds protests in Ahmedabad

There was a major uproar after Bhavnagar NSUI (National Students’ Union of India) president Astanan Khan was arrested for his alleged involvement in a ‘digital arrest’ scam. Police detained the NSUI leader for allegedly providing bank accounts to a cyber-fraud syndicate. The arrest triggered intense reactions in Ahmedabad, where the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a strong protest and raised serious questions about NSUI’s activities.
Condemning the incident, the ABVP Ahmedabad general secretary said that NSUI office-bearers have begun engaging in criminal activities under the guise of student politics. He alleged that in the past, NSUI had been involved in admission scams, harassment of students, and incidents involving girls. He added that the Bhavnagar NSUI president helping cybercriminals loot innocent citizens showed that they were now becoming a danger to society.
During the protest, ABVP also raised concerns about the potential misuse of students’ data collected during NSUI’s internal election process.
The ABVP leader claimed that NSUI collects ID proofs and bank account details from students in the name of election procedures. He said the organisation suspected that this data could be misused for financial crimes or fraud. He demanded a neutral investigation into NSUI’s election process and an immediate halt to collecting students’ bank details to prevent future trouble.
