Bengaluru teacher on Kutch Express robbed of jewellery worth ₹3 lakh at Ahmedabad station

A woman travelling on the Kutch Express from Bhuj to Bandra was allegedly robbed of her handbag containing gold ornaments, cash and other valuables worth ₹2.85 lakh when the train halted at Ahmedabad railway station in the early hours of Sunday.

As per the complaint lodged with the Ahmedabad Railway Police, the victim, identified as Bhavana Vyas, 50, a teacher residing in Bengaluru, was travelling in Coach B/05, Seat No 57 of Train No 22956 Kutch Express.

Bhavana boarded the train at Bhuj Railway Station at 8.20 pm and fell asleep during the journey. When the train halted at Ahmedabad railway station between 3.20 am and 3.40 am, she woke up to find her ladies’ purse missing from her side.

The missing bag reportedly contained a mangalsutra worth ₹1.20 lakh, three gold rings worth ₹1.20 lakh, A gold pendant worth ₹30,000, and ₹15,000 in cash, along with other personal belongings. The total value of the stolen items has been estimated at ₹2.85 lakh.

Police said that an unknown thief took advantage of the victim’s sleep and fled with the handbag while the train was stationary at the platform.

The complaint was registered under Section of the BNS, and the investigation has been started by the Ahmedabad Railway police in the matter. Officers said CCTV footage from the Ahmedabad railway station and nearby platforms will be examined to identify the suspect.
