Villlagers protest over their village being sold

A village, with 600 people living in it, was sold in Gujarat’s Dehgam, in a bizarre turn of events to its residents’ plight.

The land, Survey No 142 (Old Survey No 6) measuring 14,597 sq metres, was sold in 1982, 1987 and 2003, through a sale deed with a ₹50 stamp paper and by guarantee agreement.

The land in question, however, covers the whole area of Juna Pahadiya village in Dehgam Taluka.

The unprecedented incident came to light when a raw entry was made for the sale document. The survey number mentioned in the document covers the whole village and all the properties belonging to the villagers. The survey or admeasuring of the land is also mentioned in the document.

The villagers, who pay taxes for these houses, have now been forced to visit government offices.

The villagers allege that this document was created with the collusion of the officials with the perpetrators through false photos, figures, and maps to create the document.

Villagers are demanding the cancellation of the document.

A complaint was filed to the Village Mamlatdar office, demanding justice for the villagers.  An objection petition has also been filed against the sale document for the survey number to save the homes of the villagers.
