Bangladeshi woman nabbed in Ahmedabad for forging documents to obtain Indian passport
Accused (L) with a Crime Branch official

The Crime Branch of Ahmedabad Police arrested a Bangladeshi national for allegedly procuring an Indian passport by submitting forged documents, including a fabricated Aadhaar card and a counterfeit birth certificate. The woman, who had been living in India for over a decade, is suspected to have entered the country illegally through the Bangladesh border.

Used forged identities to create Indian documents

According to police officials, the arrest was made following a tip-off about a foreign national using fraudulent documents to establish Indian citizenship. A preliminary probe revealed that the woman had falsely declared in her passport application that she had been residing at an address in Ahmedabad since 1994. However, investigations found that the said residential society only began construction in 2009, with possession of flats commencing in 2012.

Further technical analysis of the mobile number provided in her application exposed more discrepancies, as the number was registered in another individual’s name. Between 2017 and 2021, she reportedly changed her address at least six times, alternating between locations in Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Seized currency and travel history under scrutiny

During a raid at her current residence, police recovered Indian, UAE, and Bangladeshi currency, along with her Indian passport. A detailed examination of her travel records revealed multiple visits to Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, and other Southeast Asian countries. She is believed to have travelled to Dhaka three to four times during this period.

Illegally entered India, obtained documents with local help

Police investigations further revealed that she initially entered India through the porous Bangladesh border and lived in Mumbai before shifting to Ahmedabad in 2016. There, she developed close ties with a factory worker named Yunus, who allegedly helped her obtain an Aadhaar card. Yunus passed away in 2018.

She also lived in Amrawati, Maharashtra, where she used a forged birth certificate from Uttar Pradesh to apply for an Indian passport. Although her application faced repeated rejections during police verification, it was eventually cleared.

The woman has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for forgery and cheating, as well as violations of the Passport Act and Foreigners Act. She remains in police custody, while authorities continue to probe possible links to a larger network involved in creating bogus documents for illegal immigrants.
