The Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Banaskantha police on Tuesday unearthed a counterfeit currency printing unit from Mahadeviya village in Deesa taluka and arrested two persons allegedly involved in running the operation.

Police said that fake notes worth several lakhs were seized during the raid. Preliminary investigation revealed that the unit was allegedly being operated by Raymalsinh Parmar (Darbar), who had set up the facility to print counterfeit currency for circulation in the local market.

Acting on a tip-off, the LCB team raided the premises and recovered printing equipment, ink cartridges, paper stock and bundles of counterfeit notes in denominations of ₹200, ₹500 and ₹2,000. The arrested accused are currently being interrogated to ascertain the extent of the racket and whether it had wider links beyond the district.

Police officials said that further investigation is under way to trace others who may have procured or circulated the fake notes.
