Woman killed after balcony of building collapses on her in Juhapura

A woman lost her life after an old residential structure partially collapsed in Ahmedabad’s Juhapura area on Sunday evening. The incident took place near the Vishala ice factory road, adjacent to Noor-e-Ilahi Society, when a section of a dilapidated building suddenly gave way.

According to officials, the incident occurred around 7.45 pm when the balcony of the decades-old building collapsed, falling on a woman who was walking past the structure on the road. Eyewitnesses immediately alerted the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) and emergency medical responders via 108.

The injured woman, identified as Hazrabanu, wife of Iqbalhussain Shaikh (65), a resident of Al Sufiyan Society in Juhapura, was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Initially reported to have sustained minor injuries, Hazrabanu tragically succumbed to her injuries during treatment, officials confirmed late in the night. No other injuries or casualties were reported from the site.

Following the incident, fire brigade officials cordoned off the area to prevent further risk and began clearing the debris. Authorities have launched an investigation into the condition of the structure and whether any prior complaints or notices had been issued regarding its safety.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is expected to conduct a structural audit of nearby buildings in the coming days.
