Bakri Eid holiday shifted to May 28 in Gujarat, exams postponed

The Gujarat government has changed the public holiday for Bakri Eid from May 27 to May 28 after the moon committee confirmed that the moon was not sighted on May 17. Due to this change, university exams scheduled for May 28 will now be postponed.
Earlier, the Gujarat General Administration Department had announced May 27 as the Bakri Eid holiday. However, the Gujarat Chand Committee later stated that the first moon of Zil-Hajj would be considered on May18, which means Eid-ul-Adha will now be celebrated on Thursday, May 28.
After the announcement, several organisations and student groups requested the government to revise the holiday date. The state government then officially updated the public holiday list and declared May 28 as the holiday for Bakri Eid. The Central Government has also made a similar change.
Because of the revised holiday, exams planned for May 28 at Gujarat University and Gujarat Technological University (GTU) will now be conducted on different dates. The Diploma College Association had already requested GTU to reschedule the exams before the official announcement.
At present, Gujarat University is conducting Semester-2 exams for courses like B.A., B.Com., and B.Sc., while GTU exams for Degree and Diploma Engineering and other courses are also underway. Thousands of students appearing for exams on May 28 will now have to wait for the universities to announce the new exam schedule.
University administrations are expected to release the revised dates soon.
