A 22-year-old MBBS student was allegedly assaulted by a group of Bajrang Dal members near the Viratnagar bridge area of Ahmedabad on Monday evening, following which an FIR has been registered at the Nikol Police Station.

According to police, the complainant, Aymas Ali Mohammed Arkram Shaikh, a resident of Gomtipur and a medical student at SMS Multispecialty Hospital and Dr M K Shah Medical College and Research Centre, Chandkheda, was attacked while he was sitting with his friend Mohammad Nadeem Ansari near the northern end of the Viratnagar bridge on January 19.

The student stated that after completing his hospital training around 2 pm, he returned home and later went with his friend to collect his repaired Activa scooter. As the railway crossing in the area was closed, the two parked the scooter under the Viratnagar bridge around 4 pm and were seated there when seven to eight men approached them from a lane near a nearby hospital.

The accused allegedly questioned them about their presence at the spot, asked for personal details, and then began abusing and assaulting them. The complainant alleged that he was slapped, kicked and beaten, while his friend was also attacked. Fearing for their safety, the two tried to flee and dialled the police emergency number 112.

However, as per the complainant, the group chased them, caught hold of him from behind and struck him with a stick, while continuing to issue threats to kill them if they returned to the area. He said that during the scuffle, he heard the assailants calling out each other’s names, which helped him identify some of them.

The FIR names Baba Goswami, Jitu Chauhan, Vishal Rajput, Ravindra Rajput and Sahil Bhadoriya as accused, along with several unidentified persons.

Following the assault, the injured student was taken to Narayani Hospital in Rakhial by a friend, where he underwent treatment and was later discharged. Police said the delay in filing the complaint was due to the complainant undergoing medical treatment.

The Nikol Police Station confirmed that a case has been registered based on the complaint, and an investigation has been initiated. Further inquiries are underway to identify the remaining accused and verify the sequence of events, officials said.
