Bagodara police seize 107 bottles of codeine cough syrup, 2 arrested under NDPS Act

The Bagodara Police of Ahmedabad Rural district arrested two men and seized 107 bottles of codeine-based intoxicating cough syrup during a raid near the Rajkot–Ahmedabad National Highway.
According to the police, they received a tip-off that two men were illegally selling codeine-laced cough syrup from a two-wheeler repair garage near the Meldi Mataji temple, along the service road close to the Bagodara–Dhandhuka overbridge.
Acting on the information, a police team conducted a raid at the garage. During the search, officers recovered 107 bottles of prohibited intoxicating cough syrup, valued at ₹17,655, along with two mobile phones worth ₹20,000. The total value of the seized material was estimated at ₹37,655.
The arrested accused have been identified as Mukeshbhai Lakhatra and Vishnubhai Gohil, both residents of Devpura village in Limbdi taluka of Surendranagar district. Police said the duo was allegedly selling the cough syrup without a licence or permit for personal financial gain.
A case has been registered against the two under Sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Bagodara Police Station. Police said further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain.
Another accused, identified as Ranchodbhai K. Patel, a resident of Matoda village in Sanand taluka of Ahmedabad district, is yet to be arrested. Police said more names could emerge as the probe progresses.
