Gujarat's Health Minister Rushikesh Patel announced that Ayushman cardholders will now be able to get insurance for treatment up to ₹10 lakh under the Government of India's Ayushman Card scheme. The scheme insured treatment worth ₹5 lakhs till now, where the government paid ₹1 lakh for the patient's treatment and the remaining amount was paid by the insurance company.

The state government had announced a hike in the Ayushman Card's insurance amount before the 2022 Gujarat Assembly Elections. Even after being stated in the budget session earlier this year, the scheme wasn't implemented. However, health minister Rushikesh Patel stated on June 28 that the issues between the state government and the insurance companies had been resolved and that the insurance amount would be hiked from July 12.

34 lakh insurance claims reported under Ayushman Card in Gujarat

As per the statistics, till 2022, nearly 34 lakh people have availed of insurance amounts for treatment through the Ayushman Card. It is noteworthy that Gujarat has around 2827 hospitals where all treatments and even surgeries are available for free under the Ayushman Card. These include 1975 government hospitals and 853 private hospitals of the state.
