Ayushman Bharat Scheme hit by server glitches, patients suffer
Updated: Sep 4th, 2024
Patients and their families across Gujarat are facing significant delays and frustrations due to ongoing technical issues with the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) server and portal. The slow and unreliable server has resulted in prolonged waiting times for approvals, causing substantial inconvenience to those seeking medical treatment under the scheme.
Despite the PMJAY’s promise of providing affordable healthcare, its implementation has been marred by technical challenges, particularly the sluggish server performance.
Patients often find themselves waiting for hours, if not days, to obtain approval for surgeries after being admitted to hospitals. The current server issues have escalated these problems, leading to delays in treatment and difficulties in obtaining new cards.
Gujarat has a network of 2,615 empaneled hospitals, including 868 private and 1,747 government facilities, under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. Since the financial year 2020-21, over 3 million patients have been admitted to these hospitals using the scheme. The government has allocated substantial funds to support the PMJAY in Gujarat, with allocations ranging from ₹99.84 crore in 2020-21 to ₹267.48 crore in 2023-24.
However, the persistent server issues have cast a shadow over the scheme’s effectiveness, raising concerns about its ability to deliver timely and efficient healthcare services to the people of Gujarat.
