Rape survivor in Dahod stressed after attending court hearing found hanging from tree

A 17-year-old girl, who was feeling distraught after attending a court hearing her rape case, allegedly died by suicide. She was found hanging from a tree on Monday night.

The teenager was reportedly stressed after returning from the Dahod court hearing on February 19. 

She used to live with her family in a hut near a gram panchayat in Dahod. The family performed small tasks allotted by the gram panchayat office.

In March 2023, her family members had travelled to attend a wedding while she stayed back.

On the night of March 12, 2023, she was allegedly raped by her paternal uncle, Babu Ratanbhai Sangada.

A case regarding this incident was registered at the Katwara police station in Dahod district, and the police arrested Babu, who is currently in jail. After the incident, the family had returned to Por from Dahod.

The girl was stressed after her court hearing on February 19.

On Monday, she took the drastic step when her family members were asleep. Her father found her hanging from the tree in the morning.
