As cyclone ‘Tej’ develops in Arabian Sea, to hit Yemen, Oman

Gujarat is out of danger as of now and the cyclone is not anticipated to affect Gujarat

The wind speeds are likely to increase up to 70-80 kmph today in the Arabian Sea

After catastrophic cyclone Biparjoy this June, the winds on the sea are signalling to one more cyclonic circulation that may hit Gujarat and other states.

A cyclonic storm, ‘Tej’ developing in the southwest Arabian Sea, has been predicted to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours and further into a very severe cyclonic storm in the subsequent 24 hours, to hit Bet Al Ghaidah in Yemen and Salalah in Oman in the wee hours of Oct 25, said the Met department in a latest tweet on X.

Gujarat coasts on alert

Veraval, Diu, Bhavnagar, Bharuch, Dahej, Daman, north Jakhau, Navlakhi, Kandla, Jamnagar, and Porbandar have been issued with a DC-1 (distance cautionary) signal today, which denotes an abnormal situation far somewhere in the sea. 

The cyclone may hit the coasts of Maharashtra and Gujarat.

However, Gujarat is out of danger as of now and the cyclone is not anticipated to affect Gujarat.

Earlier today, in a statement by IMD on X, “Deep depression over the southwest Arabian Sea moved west-northwest about 820 km from Socotra (Yemen) and 1100 km from Salalah airport (Oman). To intensify into a cyclonic storm over the southwest Arabian Sea during the next 6 hours and further severe cyclonic storm in the evening of 22 Oct.”

Owing to these disturbances, the wind speeds are likely to reach 55-65 kmph and increase up to 70-80 kmph today in the Arabian Sea.
