In a heart-wrenching tragedy, an anganwadi worker and her two young daughters drowned after accidentally falling into a water tank at their home in Adesar village of Rapar taluka early Wednesday morning.

According to police, 28-year-old Raiyaben Makwana, who worked as an anganwadi worker, had woken up early to begin her daily chores when the tragedy occurred. Her 5-year-old daughter Aarti reportedly went near the water tank located in the courtyard and accidentally slipped inside. Hearing the sound, Raiyaben rushed to save her daughter, carrying her three-month-old infant Ayushi in her arms, and jumped into the tank.

Unfortunately, all three drowned in the tank before help could arrive. Another daughter, aged around two-and-a-half years, who was asleep inside the house, survived unharmed.

At the time of the incident, Raiyaben’s husband, Ravabhai Makwana, was away on duty working a night shift at a private firm. Police said that initial investigation suggests the deaths were accidental, but further inquiry is being conducted to confirm the sequence of events.

Adesar Police Inspector J M Vala stated that there were no signs of family dispute or distress. The police have registered a case of accidental death and are awaiting the FSL report to complete the probe.
