Updated: Apr 12th, 2024

In an operation, Anand special operation group (SOG) apprehended an individual suspected of securing 145 activated Airtel SIM cards using fraudulent identities to engage in betting activities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Acting on a tip-off, Chirag Solanki, a resident of Somabhai Residency in Karamsad, was arrested by SOG on Apr 10.

The SOG got a lead that Solanki was set to send the SIM cards to Dubai and use them for online gaming and betting.

During the raid, the police team seized a total of 145 SIM cards and debit-credit cards of around 14 different banks.

Solanki’s interrogation revealed that he bought a SIM card for ₹1,250 from Samar Rathod and Zainulabedeen Rathod, residents of Napad village, to sell it to Dubai-based Jaimin Thakor for online gaming and betting purposes.

The SOG seized valuables worth ₹42,250, including SIM cards and one mobile phone, and also arrested Samar and Zainulabedeen. Both of them allegedly sold activated SIM cards to Solanki under different names and addresses.

A case was registered at Vidyanagar police station, and further investigation is underway. In the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that these SIM cards were taken to Dubai and used in online gaming bets.
