Amid rising concerns over the availability of LPG cylinders in India, the principal of a government primary school in Gujarat’s Anand district has written to a gas agency seeking an assured supply of cooking gas to continue preparing meals for students under the PM Poshan Yojana.

The principal of Asodar Primary Girls' School in Ankalav taluka has submitted a written request seeking the allocation of LPG cylinders required for preparing meals under the scheme.

The request comes amid geopolitical tensions in Gulf countries that have triggered worries about possible disruptions to fuel supplies.

In the letter, the school principal stated that the institution has been facing difficulties in preparing mid-day meals due to an acute shortage of cooking gas. The school operates under the district education authority and programmes supported by the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.

The letter notes that the shortage of LPG has affected the smooth functioning of the meal programme for students at the school located in Asodar village of Anand district.

As part of urgent arrangements, the principal has requested the gas agency to allocate six LPG cylinders to the school starting from March 2026 to ensure that meals under the PM Poshan scheme continue without disruption.

Officials have yet to respond publicly to the request.
