An Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) bus collided with a school van, a tempo and an autorickshaw near the Gota ceramic market on Friday afternoon, triggering a brief traffic disruption on the busy stretch. While residents claimed that a few people suffered minor injuries, officials said no casualties or serious injuries were reported in the incident.

According to AMTS officials, the accident occurred when an overspeeding AMTS bus rammed into a school van near the road intersection close to the ceramic market. The impact led to a chain collision involving a tempo and an autorickshaw, drawing commuters and residents to the spot. Traffic police and AMTS personnel soon reached the area to clear the road and restore vehicular movement.

Residents who witnessed the incident said the force of the collision was severe, crushing the front portion of the school van. The tempo and the autorickshaw were reportedly thrown into an under-construction pit along the roadside, raising concerns over road safety in the area. Locals alleged that more than three people sustained injuries, but added that it was “fortunate that no loss of life was reported”.

Confirming the incident, R N Pandey, deputy transport manager, AMTS, said that the matter was resolved on the spot through a mutual compromise. “There were no injuries to passengers or children travelling in the school van. AMTS will undertake the repair of the tempo involved in the accident,” Pandey said.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the bus driver appeared to have lost control of the speeding vehicle, ramming into other vehicles that were attempting to change lanes near the intersection.

Pandey said the AMTS has initiated departmental action following the incident. “A notice is being issued to the operator, and the driver concerned has been removed from duty with immediate effect,” he said.

The transport undertaking has also decided to impose a penalty of ₹50,000 on the operator for violating operational norms, including those related to chartered speed, the official added.
