During the conclusion of the ‘Legislative Drafting Training Programme’ at the Gujarat Assembly, Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the need for drafting the law in clear and simple language.

The home minister pointed out that addressing citizens’ issues and crafting laws in their interest is the primary responsibility of legislators. He noted that poor legislative drafting often leads to complex problems and increased judicial involvement.

He cited the Indian Constitution, created under the guidance of Dr B R Ambedkar, as an exemplary model of effective legislative drafting.

He urged legislators to thoroughly understand the language of the law and participate in discussions to address any flaws in legislation. Assembly Speaker Shankar Choudhary remarked that the language used in laws should be simple so that ordinary citizens can easily understand and comply with them.

State Advocate General Kamal Trivedi added that the definition of law is evolving in today’s modern era, highlighting the need for periodic updates. He stressed the importance of training officials to adapt to these changes effectively
