AMC approves ₹700 cr transport budget for 2025-26

Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC)'s Transport Committee has approved ₹705 crore transport budget for the upcoming financial year. Notably, the transport department’s debt currently stands at ₹4,620 crore. 

Transport budget highlights

– Female students who have passed Class 10 and are currently studying will receive concessions of up to 85%.

– Widows will get concessions of up to 50% while travelling on AMC buses.

– 445 new AC buses will be added to the fleet in 2025-26.

– The budget for 2025-26 includes the purchase of four double-decker buses through a grant from the 16th Finance Commission at a cost of ₹7 crore.

– The Transport manager presented a draft budget of ₹682 crore for the year 2025-26. Committee Chairman Dharamshi Desai mentioned that the Transport manager suggested a fleet of 1,172 buses. It was resolved to procure 100 new CNG buses at a gross cost per kilometre, increasing the fleet to 1,272 buses.

A year ago, seven electric double-decker buses were introduced on various routes across the city, but these buses running on three routes have been discontinued due to low passenger numbers and declining revenue.
