AMC to purchase 7 lakh brooms for ₹3 cr to keep Ahmedabad clean

With Ahmedabad’s total municipal area expanding to nearly 480 square kilometres, the scale of sanitation operations in the city has increased significantly.
Backed by a workforce of over 10,000 sanitation workers, the city uses more than seven lakh brooms every year to maintain cleanliness.
For that, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is set to purchase a total of seven lakh brooms at an estimated cost of ₹3.29 crore. A meeting of the Material Management and Purchase Committee is scheduled to be held in the coming days, during which two separate proposals related to the procurement will be placed for approval.
As per the proposals, AMC plans to procure five lakh Goa brooms and two lakh Fauji brooms. The first proposal seeks approval to purchase a total of two lakh Fauji brooms at a cost of ₹1.90 crore.
Of these, one lakh Fauji brooms will be purchased from Dhanlakshmi Ubha Jhadu Bhandar and another one lakh from Abhishek Sanitation Cooperative Society Ltd. The rate for each Fauji broom has been fixed at ₹54.80.
The second proposal pertains to the purchase of five lakh Goa brooms. Under this, 2.50 lakh brooms will be procured from Ambika Traders and another 2.50 lakh from Abhishek Sanitation Cooperative Society Ltd.
Each Goa broom will be purchased at a rate of ₹44, taking the total expenditure for this procurement to ₹2.20 crore.
