AMC to implement parking policy in city, will survey areas facing traffic woes

To curb the parking menace in the city, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to set up parking plans for the city’s west, northwest, and north zones.

These plans will be set up keeping in mind the city’s 5 to 20-year future.

Currently, the city houses more than 39 lakh vehicles, including 7 lakh four-wheelers.

A daily road-wise study of 16 hours will be conducted to collect and identify the databases for traffic, its volume area, and parking.

This survey would provide a ward-wise traffic volume on different roads at every hour of the day, along with the categorisation of the different vehicles parked on the various roads.

Any agency surveying the city’s traffic will classify the areas into high-demand, medium-demand, and low-demand categories.

Over these, demand-based and review-based charges will apply to the parking at these locations.

Price discounts will be provided at night for the on-street and off-street parking areas.

Parking at the city’s no parking, paid parking, unpaid parking, or illegal parking areas in these three zones will also be surveyed to resolve the issues.

AMC’s parking overhaul in Ahmedabad

AMC announced a parking policy in 2021, which sparked outrage over on-street and off-street parking prices, delaying its implementation.

Now, three years later, offers have been invited in this regard from the agencies, and a pre-bid meeting will take place on Feb 23.
