Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has spared no expense to manage the city’s solid waste under their ‘door-to-door’ and ‘spot-to-dump’ campaigns. To manage the city’s increasing waste production, the ₹240 cr expense in the previous year (2023) has spiked to ₹315 cr this year (2024).
These escalating expenses, including a staggering ₹75 cr surge this year, are owed to the addition of Bopal, Ghuma, Kathwada, and Nana Chiloda, among other areas, under the AMC’s jurisdiction in 2021.
The construction of new societies and buildings also contributes to surging waste and its management costs.
As per the data provided by the corporation, the solid waste management department collected 89,707 metric tonnes of waste through their door-to-door campaign from January to December 2023.
Ahmedabad produces a daily waste of around 2,998 metric tonnes.
The city’s west, north, and south zones produce more than half of the city’s daily waste, 1,523 metric tonnes.
Zone-wise daily waste productions:
Zone | Waste (in metric tonnes) |
South | 470 |
North | 512 |
Central | 335 |
East | 462 |
North West | 380 |
South West | 293 |
West | 541 |
AMC’s solid waste management department is also running campaigns throughout the city to raise awareness regarding the segregation of wet and dry waste.
