The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC)-run swimming pool in Ahmedabad’s Sarangpur has reportedly fallen into a state of neglect, with deteriorating infrastructure raising concerns about the safety of users and staff.

The swimming pool, which is frequented by a large number of residents, is plagued by multiple maintenance issues. According to a letter reportedly sent by the coach-cum-officer of the facility to the city engineer around a month ago, the plant room, office and electrical rooms have become dilapidated.

The stormwater line catchpits are damaged, while the overhead water tank covers and iron gates of the compound are broken.

Several deck tiles have come loose, channels connected to the shower rooms frequently overflow and shower units are leaking.

The deteriorating condition of the facility has sparked concerns among users, particularly as the damaged infrastructure could pose safety hazards.

The official has recommended immediate repair work, including restoration of damaged structures and raising the front and rear compound walls with proper sheet or wire fencing.

Citizens have questioned AMC's apparent negligence, asking who would be held accountable if an employee or swimming pool member were to suffer an injury due to the poor condition of the premises.
