AMC recruitment for 78 estate department posts sparks controversy

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s announcement to fill 78 posts in the Estate Department — including Assistant Estate Officer, Estate Inspector, and Assistant Sub-Inspector — has triggered objections over eligibility norms.

In earlier recruitment cycles, candidates for all three posts were required to have 3–5 years of experience. However, in the new notification, no experience has been made mandatory despite the posts carrying heavy administrative responsibility. Applicants have raised objections with the Municipal Commissioner, pointing out inconsistency in criteria.

The estate-TDO wing has advertised 7 Assistant Estate Officers, 23 Estate Inspectors, and 48 Assistant Sub-Inspectors, all requiring only a B.E. (Civil) degree. Critics highlight that even the Light Department’s Assistant Engineer post mandates 3 years of experience, while these estate vacancies — which deal with sensitive areas such as land management, town development, and estate administration — require none.

Concerns are mounting that the lack of experience requirements may lead to disputes and questionable selections. Objections call for immediate corrections and reinstatement of mandatory work experience before the December 3 application deadline.
