AMC recruitment scam: Civic body cancels eight appointments in Ahmedabad

The recruitment scam in Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has widened, with eight more employees losing their jobs after an internal probe found marks tampering in selection exams for posts ranging from Assistant Surveyor and Sub Inspector (Estate, TDO) to Pharmacist and Female Health Worker. The corporation has also initiated steps to file a police complaint.
This action follows the January exposure of a similar fraud, where three candidates’ marks were inflated in the Assistant Technical Supervisor recruitment exam. At the time, AMC’s head clerk, Pulkit Sathwara, was suspended after allegedly increasing candidates’ scores on the official results sheet uploaded to the corporation’s website.
A candidate named Mona Limbachiya's score was increased to 85 from 18.25, Tamanna Patel's marks were increased to 77 from 18.50, and for Jay Patel, the score was reported to be 85, while he had scored only 19.25.
The latest findings emerged from a special inquiry committee—comprising the Labour Officer, Director Vigilance, Establishment Officer, and Deputy Municipal Commissioners for Administration and West Zone—tasked with reviewing results of 2,786 selected candidates and 1,316 on the waiting list for various posts recruited after January 1, 2021.
Between May 2023 and October 2024, eight candidates allegedly received inflated marks to secure appointments. The probe, however, has not yet established who altered the marks or which officials were involved. AMC officials have refrained from giving a direct answer on these questions.
