AMC received only half of ₹12 crore cleanliness grant from Gujarat government

The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), which spends crores of rupees annually on maintaining cleanliness and beautification across the city, received only half of the ₹12 crore grant allocated by Gujarat government for sanitation efforts.
The grant was sanctioned under the Swachh Shaher Sundar Shaher Yojana, through which the civic body was entitled to receive ₹12 crore to support city cleaning initiatives. However, the Government of Gujarat released only ₹6 crore of the sanctioned amount.
The disclosure was made by the state’s Urban Development and Urban Housing Minister while responding to a question in the Assembly.
Officials noted that the civic body spends substantial funds every year on sanitation work, including routine cleaning, waste management and city enhancement projects across Ahmedabad.
In addition to routine sanitation, the municipality conducts awareness initiatives and campaigns to encourage residents to maintain cleanliness. These programmes use cultural and advisory activities to spread messages about sanitation and public hygiene.
Civic officials said the ₹12 crore grant was relatively small compared with the municipal corporation's overall sanitation expenditure.
