The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Friday carried out a demolition drive near Delhi Darwaza, removing unauthorised extensions constructed by shop owners in the area. The operation was conducted under tight security, with Shahpur local police deployed on the ground to maintain law and order.

Civic officials said the action was taken against shops that had encroached upon public land by constructing illegal additional structures. During the drive, the AMC dismantled all portions found to violate civic regulations.

“The demolition was limited strictly to the unauthorised extensions. No action was taken against legally sanctioned portions of the shops,” an AMC official said, adding that the drive was part of the corporation’s ongoing effort to curb encroachments in congested parts of the old city.

The operation drew the attention of local traders and residents, though no untoward incident was reported. Police personnel remained stationed at the site throughout the exercise to ensure the smooth execution of the civic action.

AMC officials said similar drives would continue in other parts of the city to remove illegal constructions and improve traffic flow and public safety.
