In a significant move to promote water conservation, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched an ambitious rainwater harvesting initiative coinciding with World Environment Day.

Under the national "Catch The Rain" campaign, AMC is installing advanced Rain Water Harvesting Systems across 1,750 public buildings in the city. According to officials, around 1,000 of these systems are expected to become operational before the onset of the monsoon, ensuring maximum utilization of the upcoming rainy season.

The project aims to harvest a substantial 350 million liters of rainwater annually, which is expected to significantly boost groundwater levels and address the growing water scarcity challenges in the city.

This large-scale effort reflects AMC’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability. By capturing and recharging rainwater, the initiative will help replenish aquifers, reduce dependence on external water sources, and promote a culture of conservation among citizens.

The project forms a key part of the corporation’s broader vision for a greener and more sustainable Ahmedabad. With climate change and urban water stress becoming critical concerns, such proactive steps are vital for securing the city’s water future for generations to come.
