In a move to make Ahmedabad a greener and more sustainable city, the Amadavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has announced plans to plant 50 lakh trees this year under its ambitious Mission Five Million Trees.

Mayor Hitesh Barot, accompanied by a team of office bearers, conducted a site inspection and review of ongoing plantation activities in the Lambha ward of the South Zone.

The mayor personally assessed the progress, interacted with officials, and emphasised the importance of proper execution, maintenance, and survival of the newly planted saplings.

The initiative builds on the success of the previous Mission Three Million Trees and Mission Four Million Trees, which saw large-scale plantation drives across the city. The new mission aims to significantly enhance the city's green cover, improve air quality, combat urban heat, and create a healthier environment for residents.

Use of cotton bags in vegetable markets

Apart from this, Ahmedabad’s vegetable markets are actively promoting the use of cotton bags while enforcing a strict ban on single-use plastic.

The AMC has intensified these eco-friendly measures alongside ongoing cleanliness and beautification drives.

The initiative is expected to reduce plastic waste and improve the overall shopping experience in the vegetable markets.
