Despite the ruling BJP’s repeated promises of transparent governance, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has been plagued by a series of scams and scandals over the past decade. From the V S Hospital fake receipt scam in 2013 to the recent Technical Supervisor recruitment scam, the AMC has faced allegations of corruption at various levels.

The opposition parties have consistently raised concerns about these issues, staging protests and demanding action. However, these protests often end with a compromise between the administration, opposition, and the ruling party.

The list of scams includes road construction scams, irregularities in hospital services, property tax discrepancies, and more. While some officials have faced disciplinary action, the punishments have been lenient, often amounting to minor deductions in their increments.

This lack of stringent action against corrupt officials has encouraged them to continue their misdeeds, creating a culture of corruption within the AMC.

The list of scams over the past decade includes:

2013: Fake receipt scam in V S Hospital

2016: Cataract scam in LG Hospital

2016: Cataract scam in Nagri Hospital and cash scam in Bodakdev Civic Center

2017: Road construction scam worth ₹400 crore

2018: Scam in the recruitment of Assistant Municipal Commissioners

2018: Crediting of over 200 entries in property tax

2023: Suspension of the then city engineer in the Hatkeshwar Bridge case

2025: Technical Supervisor recruitment scam
