AMC orders electrical safety audit ahead of monsoon to avoid electrocution incidents

The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has directed its electricity department to strengthen safety measures ahead of the monsoon season following several electrocution incidents reported during last year's rains.

The move comes after three incidents in which pedestrians allegedly suffered fatal electric shocks after coming into contact with waterlogged areas during the monsoon.

Reviewing monsoon preparedness, the municipal commissioner instructed officials to pay special attention to electrical infrastructure in locations prone to waterlogging.

Officials have been directed to install Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs) on streetlight poles in vulnerable areas so that power supply is automatically disconnected in the event of a short circuit.

The commissioner also ordered proper installation and inspection of fuse wires, earthing systems and other electrical safety mechanisms to minimise the risk of electrocution during heavy rainfall.

In addition, teams of officials have been deployed to inspect junction boxes, underground wiring and related electrical installations across the city.

Municipal authorities said the objective was to prevent accidents caused by exposed electrical systems coming into contact with rainwater.

The review follows growing concerns over public safety during the monsoon, when waterlogging and infrastructure-related incidents often pose risks to residents.

Meanwhile, citizens have continued to raise complaints regarding prolonged streetlight outages in several parts of the city, including during non-monsoon periods.
