ACB arrests AMC official over disproportionate wealth, finds assets 102% more than income

Amdavad Municipal Corporation's Estate/ TDO inspector of the East Zone Jignesh Shah was arrested by the Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The ACB received a complaint against Shah, accusing him of large-scale corruption during his tenure at AMC’s East Zone. Based on the complaint, a formal investigation was launched.
ACB examined Shah’s income and expenditure from April 2012 to March 2022, conducting forensic accounting with assistance from chartered accountants.
The investigation revealed that Shah had made substantial investments in land, residential properties, and gold under his and his family members’ names.
The total assets acquired were valued at approximately ₹3.07 crore, which was 102% more than his legitimate income. Based on the findings of the final report, ACB registered a case of disproportionate assets against Jignesh Shah and arrested him on Thursday.
Legal proceedings have begun, and ACB officials indicated that more details regarding possible scams within AMC may come to light during the investigation.
