AMC makes mandatory police verification, NOC for PG owners in society

After clashes between the PG tenants and society residents the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has made police verification and a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the housing society mandatory for all paying guest (PG) accommodations in the city.
Following this decision by the corporation’s Standing Committee, notices have been issued to 385 PG operators.
Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani stated that under the new regulations, the corporation will not merely impose fines but will take strict legal action, including eviction, if operators fail to comply with police verification or society NOC requirements.
Under the new rules, if PG operators fail to submit both documents or violate the regulations, the corporation can order the premises to be vacated.
For some time, several areas including Navrangpura, Bodakdev, Thaltej, Chandkheda, Ranip, and Sabarmati have seen rising disputes between PG operators and housing society residents.
What will the new rule provide?
Mandatory police registration will ensure that information about PG residents is available to the police, helping curb potential criminal activities.
Requiring a society NOC will give residents more control and help reduce problems related to parking, and other social disturbances often caused by PG accommodations.
