AMC launches doorstep debris collection to curb dust pollution

Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has rolled out a structured mechanism for the collection and disposal of Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste across the city.
Under the initiative, citizens undertaking repair, renovation, maintenance or new construction work can now arrange for doorstep collection of soil, rubble and building debris with a single call to their respective Zonal Control Room. The Solid Waste Management Department will collect the waste at nominal charges and transport it to designated disposal sites.
25 designated disposal sites across seven zones
AMC has identified 25 plots across seven zones East, West, North, South, Central, North-West and South-West where citizens can dispose of construction debris at their own cost. No additional municipal charges will be levied for dumping waste at these designated locations.
Officials have strictly prohibited the dumping of construction debris on public roads, open plots or unauthorised areas. Violators will face penalties, and vehicles used for illegal dumping may be seized. A dedicated cleanliness squad has been formed to conduct regular inspections and enforce compliance.
Dedicated helpline numbers
Citizens can contact their respective zonal control rooms between 8 am and 6 pm for doorstep collection:

Modern collection centres to curb dust
To ensure scientific disposal, AMC has also established modern C&D waste collection centres equipped with mist systems that spray fine water droplets to prevent dust particles from spreading into the air. The move is expected to significantly reduce airborne dust and contribute to improved air quality in Ahmedabad.
The civic body has appealed to residents to cooperate with the initiative and avoid dumping debris on roads, emphasising that
