AMC in action: Cattle menace, parking problems, encroachments addressed

After the Gujarat high court slammed the government and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) regarding the stray cattle menace and other city issues, the authority submitted a report today of the actions taken in two months.

M Thennarasan, municipal commissioner of Ahmedabad, submitted in a report that AMC authorities have followed the guidelines and executed the action plan.

More than 4,000 stray animals were tagged in the last two months. A total of 4,671 stray cattle were seized, and around 200 FIRs were lodged against cattle owners.

Traffic issues

In order to regulate and control traffic problems, the authorities have towed more than 800 vehicles that were parked illegally.

Encroachments were removed from the roads and footpaths of the city. More than 18,500 encroachments were removed by the authorities, whereas 1,241 encroachments were removed from the plots owned by AMC, charging ₹64.75 lakh as a fine.

More than 3,300 carts and roadside stalls were also removed by the joint enforcement team, collecting a fine of ₹55 lakh.

Illegal construction on 2,300 sq ft of parking areas was removed. Moreover, roads and bridges shined ahead of festivities; a total of 29,380 metric tonnes of asphalt mixture was used for road projects in seven zones in Ahmedabad, and a 1,000 metric tonnes mixture was used for micro surfacing.

Gujarat local bodies in action

After the HC’s order, a detailed report of 5,979 pages was submitted by the municipal corporations of eight cities across the state. The reported operations included those carried out between Oct 27 and Nov 5.
