Restoration work has begun at the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC)’s heritage building, built between 1920 and 1930. The restoration work is likely to cost ₹10 crore.

This historic building holds significance as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was elected from the Dariapur ward here.

As part of the restoration, a digital museum showcasing his contributions and an interpretation center will be developed.

Experts believe that the heritage building was constructed when the current AMC was known as the Ahmedabad Municipal Borough. The building’s architecture is attributed to Atmaram Gajjar. At the time,  bricks, lime, iron, and wood were used in construction, and none of that will be replaced during restoration.

Features of new AMC building

The first floor of the heritage building will feature a museum area dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s life. It will include detailed exhibits on his role in India’s freedom movement, presented through digital formats for visitors to experience interactively.

The existing Gandhi Hall within the heritage building will also be upgraded with modern amenities. Arrangements will be made to ensure that visitors can access comprehensive information about both Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and other heritage aspects of the city at one place.
