AMC halts assistant station officer interviews after questions over recruitment process

The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has cancelled the scheduled oral interviews for the recruitment of Assistant Station Officers in the Fire department.
The decision followed questions raised about the selection method, which involved document verification and direct interviews—an exception from the usual written examination process for Class-3 and Class-4 posts.
The list of 32 shortlisted candidates, published on the civic body’s website, prompted concerns from applicants and social media users, leading to calls for procedural clarity. AMC officials stated that the interview round has been withdrawn pending review.
The Fire department has faced scrutiny in recent months due to an ongoing legal case related to alleged misuse of sponsorship letters for admission to the National Fire Service College in Nagpur, which had previously led to dismissals of four officers.
Candidates had also reported receiving recommendation calls, and several shortlisted names were said to be relatives of serving officials. AMC’s standing committee chairperson Devang Dani confirmed that the interview process has been cancelled.
