Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has uncovered suspicious entries in its online vehicle tax payment system, where dealers allegedly uploaded fake or unrelated bills while paying taxes on behalf of citizens. Some cases showed bills with lower amounts, blurred invoices, or even Aadhaar/PAN cards uploaded instead of valid documents.

Taking these irregularities into account, AMC has created a system that will directly issue notices to dealers regarding such cases. On the other hand, the corporation has also announced that a list of people owning vehicles worth over ₹25 lakh but failing to pay vehicle tax will be made public along with their vehicle numbers. If dues remain unpaid, their vehicles may even be seized.

A survey of luxury vehicles worth more than ₹25 lakh will be conducted, and if tax is not paid, seizure action will follow.

In a recent meeting of the Revenue Committee, it was decided to strictly recover pending vehicle tax from luxury vehicles being used without payment.

Committee chairman Aniruddhsinh Zala stated that in 2023, AMC noticed that around 15,000 vehicles in the city had not paid vehicle tax. Consequently, from October 21, 2023, AMC launched an online verification module for dealers registering with the corporation to pay vehicle tax on behalf of citizens. Dealers are required to upload the vehicle’s bill/invoice while making the payment.

However, in several cases, instead of uploading valid invoices, dealers uploaded Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, or even unclear photos of vehicles. In some cases, the invoices uploaded were blurred or had incorrect amounts, raising suspicion.

To address this, AMC has decided that such dealers will now receive online notices directly through their login accounts. If the dealers fail to act within the specified timeframe, their registration in the online vehicle tax module will be canceled.

With this online notice-generation system, suspicious entries can be quickly detected and resolved.
