AMC inspects 46 commercial complexes, collects ₹1.11 lakh penalty over unclean parking areas

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has intensified its cleanliness drive by launching a special inspection campaign targeting parking spaces of commercial complexes and shopping malls across the city, officials said on Thursday.

According to a press note issued by the Solid Waste Management and Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) Department on January 16, operators of all commercial complexes and malls have been instructed to ensure daily and systematic cleaning of parking areas outside their premises. The initiative aims to consolidate the progress made by Ahmedabad in the cleanliness sector and make enforcement more effective on the ground.

As part of the campaign, AMC teams carried out inspections across all seven municipal zones. A total of 46 locations were checked, notices were issued to erring units, and penalties amounting to ₹1.11 lakh were recovered from establishments found with excessive dirt and poor sanitation.

 Zone-wise inspection and penalty details

  • East zone: ₹10,000 fine from 8 notices
  • West zone: ₹10,000 fine from 5 notices
  • North zone: ₹14,500 fine from 3 notices
  • South zone: ₹40,500 fine from 5 notices
  • Central zone: ₹15,000 fine from 6 notices
  • North West zone: ₹11,000 fine from 5 notices
  • South West zone: ₹15,000 fine from 14 notices

Total: ₹1,11,000 fine from 46 notices 

The civic body said inspections covered prominent locations such as Pavilion Mall, Platinum Plaza, Vishala Landmark and Karnavati Mega Mall in the East Zone; Hive Hostel, Ashwamedh Complex, Mithakhali and Navrangpura in the West Zone; Auda Market in Sardarnagar, Avani Complex in Naroda and Lucky Market in Kubernagar in the North Zone.

In the South Zone, checks were conducted at Gopal Tower Road in Maninagar, Wonder Point Complex and Shreeji Bapa Complex in Indrapuri. The Central Zone inspections included Sumel-11 near Namaste Circle, Shahpur and Shubh Complex on Rajasthan Road in Shahibaug. Shilpa Sachdev and Stellar Complex were inspected in the North West Zone, while Marigold, Ghuma Sobo Centre in Bopal and stretches along Prahladnagar 100 Feet Road were covered in the South West Zone.

AMC officials said the campaign would be further intensified in the coming days. Owners and operators of commercial complexes have been urged to extend full cooperation and voluntarily maintain cleanliness in parking areas and surrounding spaces; failing which, punitive action will continue.
