AMC commissioner asks officials to let the land ‘breathe’ while laying footpaths

Ahmedabad’s Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani asked his officials to let the land ‘breathe’, suggesting that a layer of clay should be deployed before laying ground for the footpaths in the city.
According to him, since a layer of cement is applied currently while laying down walkways, the rainwater has nowhere to seep, resulting in waterlogging at places.
“If the land would be able to breathe, we would be able to do so, too,” he said. The commissioner was also vocal about removing unnecessary barricades from city roads.
Moreover, the commissioner also suggested the iconic heritage walk of Ahmedabad to begin from Bhadrakali Temple, which currently begins at Swaminarayan Temple in Kalupur.
Notably, street vendors were removed from the Bhadra area of the city recently.
In response to commissioner’s suggestion, deputy publicity commissioner said that all city-centric events will be shifted to historic monuments in the coming days, beginning January 26, the Republic Day.
The municipal commissioner also asked estate department officials to remove encroachment from the lakes of the cities and focus on their development.
He also asked model fire stations to be established on SG Highway, SP Ring Road, and 132 ft ring road.
