The Bodakdev police have registered a case against a man and two unidentified associates for allegedly obstructing civic officials during a stray cattle control operation and driving away cattle from an illegal pen near Science City Road in Ahmedabad on Monday evening.

According to police officials, the incident occurred around 5.30 pm on February 2 when a team from the Amdavad Municipal Corporation’s Cattle Nuisance Control Department (CNCD) was carrying out a drive to detain stray cattle in the Bodakdev zone.

The complaint was filed by Chintanbhai Barad, an officer with the CNCD, who stated that he, along with colleague Rameshkumar Choudhary and other staff, had been directed to inspect cattle near Hebatpur village, close to Science City Road.

During the patrol, the team found around seven cows housed inside a fenced enclosure on New Science Park Road. As the officials began the process of seizing the cattle, a man, later identified as Jigarbhai Bharwad, allegedly objected to the action, claiming ownership of the premises and requesting that the officials leave the premises.

When asked to produce a valid licence for keeping cattle, Bharwad reportedly failed to do so. The FIR states that despite repeated warnings that the cattle would be confiscated as per civic rules, he stood at the gate of the enclosure and prevented the officials from entering, thereby obstructing them from performing their lawful duty.

The complainant alleged that while the officials were engaged in the confrontation, two other men accompanying Bharwad jumped over the fence and drove away the cattle through a smaller exit at the rear of the enclosure. By the time police were alerted and arrived at the spot, only two cows remained inside the pen, which were subsequently seized by the civic team.

Police said a case has been registered against Bharwad and two unidentified persons for obstructing public servants from discharging their duties and for related offences. Efforts are on to identify and trace the other two accused, while further investigation is under way.
