All about the first day of nomination form filling in Gujarat

Updated: Apr 13th, 2024

As the nomination form filling has begun in Gujarat from Apr 12 until Apr 19, party leaders across the state have started to show up to collect the forms.

Out of 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat, the capital city of Gandhinagar, one of the high-profile constituencies, witnessed a total of 35 forms dispensed on the first day of form filling.

The forms include Gandhinagar Congress candidate Sonal Patel’s form, Bahujan Samaj Party, Bahujan Maha Party, Bahujan Mukti Party, Loktantrik Rashtravadi Party, Akhil Bharatiya Parivar Party, Right to Recall Party, Prajatantra Aadhaar Party, Aap Ki Awaaz, Insaniyat Party, and Bharatiya Rashtriya Dal on the first day.

The first registration was filed by a candidate from the Right to Recall Party, marking the initiation of the process.

14 independent candidates also picked up the nomination form.

While BJP stalwart leader and Gandhinagar candidate Amit Shah will fill out the nomination form on Apr 19, opposition Congress candidate Sonal Patel will fill out the nomination form on Apr 16.

As per Rule 4 of the Conduct of Election Rules, 1961, for a candidate set up by a recognised political party, one elector of the constituency must sign as a proposer in Part-I of the nomination paper. The candidate and any proposers must sign Part III.

In Gujarat, form filling has started from Apr 12 to Apr 19. Notably, forms will not be filled out on weekends and public holidays on the occasion of Ram Navmi (Apr 13, Apr 14, and Apr 17).

After the form is submitted to the returning officer (RO), scrutiny of nomination papers will be done by the RO on Apr 20, and candidates will be advised to obtain acknowledgement and notice of scrutiny on Apr 22.

Police officers have also been assigned duty at the Gandhinagar centre for nomination form filling. Air-conditioned waiting rooms have also been set up by the authorities for the candidates and proposers.
