Air-conditioner electric buses in Rajkot halted amid soaring temperatures

With temperatures soaring as high as 46°C in Rajkot, over 28,000 commuters were deprived of air-conditioned Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) buses.
According to a Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) official Manish Vora said, “Electric buses are programmed to automatically shut down when the temperature reaches 50-51°C to avoid overheating. An incident of fire due to overheating had occurred in Surat. Therefore, the corporation is not willing to take any risks.”
Vora said that an urgent meeting was held with the operating agency to address the issue.
Due to the overheating, it became difficult to operate it and by Monday evening, 25 buses were out of service, and only three buses were operating.
The commuters who daily use BRTS for their journey from Madhapar to Gondal Chowkdi were distressed because of the AC bus shutdown.
In the sizzling heat, Rajkotians are deprived of the air-conditioned BRTS service.
