Ahmedabad’s Vatva station set for mega upgrade with 9 platforms

A major upgrade is under way at Vatva Railway Station, which is set to become Ahmedabad’s second largest station after Kalupur. Railways have begun developing Vatva into a mega coaching terminal, aiming to ease the load on Kalupur and improve train operations across the city.
Vatva currently has 3 platforms, but 6 new platforms are being added, taking the total to 9, enabling the handling of 51 trains per day. The terminal will span 3 km, with key facilities including 12 pit lines, 29 stabling (parking) lines, 2 washing lines for rake cleaning, and two 600-metre lines for coach repairs.
Located near industrial hubs such as Vatva, Naroda and Kathwada GIDC, the upgraded station will boost both passenger movement and connectivity.
Meanwhile, railways have announced temporary route changes.
A few trains departing from Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Okha will operate on modified routes or be short-terminated due to operational adjustments:
December 12: Gandhinagar Capital–Daulatpur Express to run via Daurai–Madar bypass instead of Ajmer
December 16: Ahmedabad–Gorakhpur Express to run only up to Varanasi
December 17: Gorakhpur–Ahmedabad Express to start from Varanasi; Ahmedabad departure delayed by four hours
December 15: Darbhanga–Ahmedabad Special to run via Ghazipur–Jaunpur; will skip Shahganj and Ayodhya Cantt
December 19: Okha–Tuticorin Vivek Express will run only up to Kovilpatti
December 21: The return Vivek Express from Tuticorin will start from Kovilpatti
