Ahmedabad’s Subhash Bridge to be ready by January 2027, AMC approves ₹236 cr tender

The Subhash Bridge, which was closed last year after cracks were noticed in the structure, is expected to be restored within the next nine months, with civic authorities approving a ₹236 crore tender for the project.
Civic officials said the existing superstructure of the bridge will be dismantled and replaced with a steel composite girder structure, while the foundation will be strengthened. The tender for the work has been awarded to D R Agarwal Infracon, and a work order will be issued soon.
Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has claimed that the restored bridge is expected to remain structurally stable for at least 70 years.
Currently, Subhash Bridge has five spans of 76.25 metres and two spans of 36.50 metres, with a total length of 454 metres and a width of 18 metres.

Deputy Municipal Commissioner Mirant Parikh said that the new bridge spans will be 38 metres each, and the new steel superstructure will reduce the load on the existing well foundation while increasing its load-bearing capacity.
The project will also include the construction of two new two-lane bridges on either side of the existing bridge within 24 months. These bridges will feature an iconic steel structural façade with lighting.
Officials added that the existing pier well foundation will be strengthened and additional piers will be constructed using 1500–1800 mm diameter pile foundations.
The structural design will be verified by the R&B Design Circle before the construction begins.
